Does local democracy improve public health interventions? Evidence from India

چکیده

Health care decisions in many low-income countries often require a close political agency relationship between healthcare decision makers and constituents. This is especially the case for maternal child as well preventative interventions when resources are scarce. article examines effect of introduction National Rural Mission India, introducing Village Health, Sanitation Nutrition Committees (VHSNC), self-governance mechanism to strengthen village health making. We study exposure VHSNC on both care. find that VHSNC's increase utilization several services, but does not systematically uptake preventive The more intense larger villages areas closer district headquarters, driven by an public network.
